Questions that come up

Does my log get backed up automatically?: Your phone backs Chirp up the way it backs up your other apps — to your Google account on Android, iCloud on iOS. That copy is yours and never reaches us. Chirp's own backup, the one on Upkeep, is separate and writes dated files to a folder you choose.
Where is my data kept?: On your device. Chirp has no account, no analytics and no network connection, so nothing you log is ever sent to us — see the privacy policy.
How do I back up?: Settings → Data → choose a folder, then “Back up now” on Upkeep. The folder can be iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox or local storage. Backups are dated and never overwrite each other, so a bad one cannot destroy a good one.
Upkeep says my backup folder is no longer reachable.: The folder was moved, deleted, or its permission was withdrawn. Pick it again in Settings. Chirp reports this rather than quietly failing, because a backup that did not happen must never be reported as one.
Why was my shot marked “confounded”?: More than one thing changed since the last shot on that bean — say the dose and the basket. When two variables move together the shot cannot tell you which one mattered, so it is kept out of the sweet-spot maths. It is still logged and still yours.
Why was a shot excluded for channelling?: A channelled puck tastes sour for reasons that have nothing to do with the grind. Grinding finer in response makes it worse, so those shots are counted and set aside rather than averaged in.
Chirp is not suggesting a grind setting yet.: It needs a shot that tasted bitter and a shot that tasted sour at a coarser setting. Until there is a gap between the two there is nothing honest to point at, so Chirp says so instead of guessing.
Can I get my data out?: Yes. A backup writes both JSON and CSV, and the CSV opens in any spreadsheet. It is a plain file in a folder you chose — nothing is locked in.
